Seven teams will be designing a brand-new district of Ostrava!

The “Žofinka” architectural and urban planning competition, which will breathe new life into the area between Nová Karolina and Lower Vítkovice, has attracted high levels of interest.
 
Out of the 29 entries submitted, the competition jury shortlisted 7 teams, including some internationally renowned European studios.

In the upcoming months, the teams will be designing a brand-new district of Ostrava that will help integrate the city as well as creating innovative solutions for residents and visitors alike. Collaboration between experts in the fields of architecture, urbanism and landscaping has again been perceived very positively, and Ostrava is continuing on its path to become a great city for living.

The competition jury chose seven teams for the shortlist:
– the Danish studio Adept in a consortium with the Czech studio atelier tečka, the landscape architects VEN.KU architekti, the ohboi studio, and the transport consultants VECTURA Pardubice;
– the Prague studio CMC with the Dutch studio MRDV the European Transportation Consultancy, the landscape architects L&SCAPE and the design studio Projekce 21;
– the Brno studio Consequence forma;
– the Brno studio CHYBIK + KRISTOF ARCHITECTS;
– the Prague studio Jakub Cigler Architekti;
– the Prague studio Pavel Hnilička Architects + Planners;
– the Prague studio Perspektive Studio in a consortium with the London consultants Marko&Placemakers.

The first proposals for the new district will be presented in January 2025, and the competition winner will be announced in May 2025!
