Nové Lauby apartment complex has now been officially opened
The long-awaited NOVÉ LAUBY apartment complex has now been officially opened. It offers comfortable modern living in the heart of Ostrava.
The first residents moved into their apartments in the summer of 2024.
The name of the development means “new arcades”, and the buildings that formerly stood on the site featured distinctive covered pedestrian walkways. The paving in the part of Velká Street outside the new development has been designed to indicate the location of the original arcades, forming a line that links up with the paving under the arcades of the adjacent museum.
The project was a collaborative venture by three partners:
The BBB Nové Lauby association, Znamení čtyř – architekti and the City of Ostrava.
The apartment complex contains:
– 83 modern apartments (1 to 4 rooms) and 2 studios
– 173 parking spaces
– Commercial premises
– An innovative rainwater collection system for irrigating greenery
– Apartment terraces and green areas on the roofs
– An atrium inspired by a Shakespearean theatre, with balconies and a green “stage”
When the development was completed, the City of Ostrava purchased two apartment buildings at the complex. The complex now owns 31 apartments and co-owns non-residential premises, including 119 parking spaces and 17 cellar units.
Besides expanding the range of rental housing in the city centre, the project has also been sensitively integrated into Ostrava’s historic urban core. The paving in Velká Street that traces the line of the previous building’s frontage is a delightful detail that helps create a link between the past and the present. The complex consists of five buildings. The building contractor was the BBB Nové Lauby association, a consortium of the Bystroň Group, BBP STAVBY, S.R.O. and the contractor BAK. The construction cost almost 500 million CZK. Nové Lauby was designed by the widely renowned architectural studio Znamení čtyř – architekti.
